Hang (Alex) Zhao

About Me

I am Hang Zhao (赵航), currently a postdoctoral researcher at Wuhan University, working in collaboration with Professor Kai Xu from NUDT. I received my Ph.D. in Computer Science in 2025 from NUDT, under the supervision of Professor Kai Xu. Upon the recommendation of Professor Xin Xu, I served as a visiting researcher in LAMDA group led by Professor Zhi-Hua Zhou at Nanjing University, under the guidance of Professor Yang Yu, from June 2021 to March 2024. Prior to my doctoral studies, I completed my Bachelor’s degree at the Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT).

We are hiring PhD, Msc, and visiting students in embodied intelligence. Our group is research-driven, offering active academic mentoring, ample computational resources, and a focus on valuable, exciting research topics. Students working with us have published in top-tier venues such as SIGGRAPH and RSS, or received perfect review scores for their papers.   • 2025/6/11: I am honored as Outstanding Graduate of Hunan Province.
  • 2025/6/7: 获人社部“博新计划”资助.
  • 2025/4/30: Our paper “Learning Practically Feasible Policies for Online 3D Bin Packing” is selected as an Outstanding Paper of the Year (Two-Year Hot Paper) by Science China Information Sciences.
  • 2024/4/21: We are honored with the Outstanding Poster Award at China3DV, ranking first among 100 participants.
  • 2023/12/1: I am awarded with National Scholarship for Ph.D. students.
  • 2023/8/11: The code we published has been nominated for the Outstanding Graphics Open Source Project of 2023 by the Computer-Aided Design and Computer Graphics (CAD&CG) Technical Committee of the China Computer Federation (CCF).
  • 2023/5/20: Our paper for irregular object packing has been accepted by ACM TOG!
  • 2022/2/27: The code of our ICLR work has been released now, all kinds of feedback and any contribution is welcome!
  • 2022/2/25: I am awarded Lingdi Scholarship of 30,000 yuan.
  • 2022/1/21: The work on continuous domain packing has been accepted at ICLR 2022! I independently completed this project as a student, and I genuinely take pride in the recognition it has received.
  • 2019/6/1: I am honored as Outstanding Graduate of Beijing.
  • 2018/11/1: I am awarded with National Scholarship for undergraduate students.
